Joint Committee on Finance acts on WTCS items
The Joint Committee on Finance - the Legislature's powerful budget writing committee - voted on Wednesday, May 2 on the WTCS portion of the 2007-09 state budget.
The main item before the Committee was the Governor's Workforce Advancement Training Grant program - a targeted workforce development tool aimed at increasing the skills and productivity of incumbent workers. The Committee voted 15 to 1 to reduce by $3 million the Governor's proposed funding increase.

WMC: Skills gap persists
A report by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, the state's largest business lobby, shows that 58% of the state's manufacturers struggle finding skilled labor.
The WMC survey is consistent with other recent reports on the shortage of skilled labor. The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development predicts state manufacturers will have over 7,000 job openings per year through 2014.
