Liberal arts transfer bill introduced

Representative Jeff Wood and Senator Ron Brown have introduced legislation that, if enacted, would result in the expansion of liberal arts transfer programs offered by technical college districts.

The companion bills – Assembly Bill 595 and Senate Bill 279 – would require the WTCS State Board to approve a liberal arts transfer program in any technical college district that does not have a UW two-year college within its boundaries.

Three districts – Chippewa Valley, Gateway, and Western Wisconsin – have no UW two-year college within their boundaries, meaning they would be required to offer a liberal arts transfer program if the legislation passes.

Currently, Madison Area Technical College, Milwaukee Area Technical College, and Nicolet Area Technical College are the only three districts authorized to offer a liberal arts transfer program.
