Central Wisconsin to celebrate unity during American Education Week
“All for one and one for all” will be the mantra at an annual event held at the Central Wisconsin UniServ Council’s (CWUC) office on American Education Week’s National ESP Day.

“The November 18 event is open to all CWUC members and the focus will be about the importance of all members – no matter what their position is – to unite around education issues,” said CWUC UniServ Director Sandra Fults.
Presenters include NEA Directors Laura Vernon and Shelly Moore, NEA ESP at large Director Kay Hansen and WEAC Negotiations Specialist Mark Simons, said Peg Bestul who is a member of CWUC’s Education Support Professionals Committee that sponsors the event.
Hansen, Vernon and Moore will present a program titled “All for one and one for all,” which they presented at the National Education Association’s ESP Conference. The presentation is about how different locals found ways to work together as one unit, Hansen said
“Teachers and support staff need to work together, especially during the bargain,” Hansen said. “In Denmark the teachers and the ESP sit down and look at contract proposals together. Our support base is our unity.”
Vernon agreed.
“We will talk about the importance of organizing all union members around the issues of public education and how essential ESP are to teacher issues and that they are intertwined,” she said.
“It’s all for one and one for all,” Vernon said. “That in itself is the message. We need to remember that we are union brothers and sisters. We are family no matter what any one of us do in our jobs.”
Bestul said the CWUC ESP Committee started planning the event in August.
“This will be the fourth year that we will have homemade soups, bread and desserts that will kick off the night,” she said.
“We wanted to do something different,” Bestul said. “We wanted to do something that would make ESP feel that they are important. We didn’t want to have it catered. Plus there is nothing better than a bowl of warm soup on a cold night.
“We usually get 40 people and that includes teachers as well,” she said. “We do it the same time every year, and our CWUC members appreciate it.”
The event will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the CWUC office in Mosinee.
