By an overwhelming margin, Milwaukee teachers voted to ratify the 2007-2009 contract with the Milwaukee Public Schools school board.
“Our members recognize this contract settlement as a win for both sides,” said Milwaukee Teachers' Education Association President Dennis Oulahan. “From the restoration of the mentoring program, to the provisions that will make our schools safe for students, staff and families, there is much to like about this settlement.
“Now, we can focus our energies on what we do best – educating our students and advocating for them and their families.”
The agreement includes salary raises and no changes in health benefits. It will provide first-year teachers with mentors, modifications to the interview process to help MPS better attract and retain teachers, and procedures for keeping schools safe and orderly.
The MTEA represents more than 8,000 teachers and other education professionals in Milwaukee Public Schools. MTEA’s mission is to improve the lives of our members and the students and families they serve.
