Guy Costello
Vice President
Wisconsin Education Association Council
Guy Costello, a teacher at Lakeview Elementary School in South Milwaukee for 16 years, began his term as vice president of the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC) in August 2007. He was elected to serve a three-year term.
Costello has more than 30 years experience in union, electoral and political organizing. Before becoming an educator, Costello worked for eight years with Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers Union in California and another eight years as a political organizer in Chicago. He was active in the Illinois Citizen Action Organization before leaving Chicago to become a teacher in South Milwaukee. Through all of his ventures, Costello says his most important accomplishment is the large number of his former students who have gone on to be the first members of their families to attend and graduate from college.
Costello lives in South Milwaukee with his two daughters.
WEAC is a professional organization representing the public policy, labor and professional interests of its more than 98,000 members. Great schools benefit everyone, and WEAC’s mission is to support public education and the men and women who work in Wisconsin’s public schools.
