Admission to Sessions Admission to all meetings is restricted to WEAC members and guests. Questions about membership will be answered at the WEAC Information Booth in the Exhibit Hall in the Midwest Airlines Center. On-site registration is available at the WEAC booth in the Exhibit Hall. New Member Stipend PLEASE NOTE: this stipend is for first time attendees of the WEAC Convention(1-3 years in the profession). Continuing this year, is a special incentive for new members. Members who are in their first three years in the profession who attend both days of the Convention will receive a $50 stipend. As usual, attendance forms will be available each day (after you've registered onsite or pre-registered) at the WEAC Membership Booth at the Midwest Airlines Center. You can only earn this stipend once. Please do not submit the forms this year if you received a stipend for the 2006 WEAC Annual Convention. Registration Members attending this year's WEAC Convention are once again being asked to register. You can register now on the WEAC website. It will just take a few seconds. This registration process helps WEAC more accurately track attendance so that we can continue to refine our ongoing programming plans. You can also register on site. If you register on site, you will use your WEAC membership card or a picture ID. Register here! Exhibits/Exhibit Hours The exhibit area is one of the most popular Convention features. It is open to all educators and their friends as well as the general public. A full listing of exhibitors and an exhibit floor plan will be distributed at the Exhibit Hall at the Midwest Airlines Center. Exhibits will be open during the following hours: Thursday, October 25 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, October 26 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Lost and Found Items found can be returned to or claimed at the WEAC Information Office at the Midwest Airlines Center. Location of Meetings Convention sessions have been scheduled at two facilities. Workshops and presentations are scheduled at the Midwest Airlines Center and the Hilton Milwaukee City Center. There is a walkway between the two sites. The General Session is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 25 at the Midwest Airlines Center, 400 W Wisconsin Avenue., Exhibit Halls A & B. Directions Directions to Hilton Milwaukee City Center From Green Bay: Take Hwy 43 South to Civic Center Wells exit. Follow Wells to 4th Street. Turn right on 4th Street. Follow to Wisconsin Avenue, turn right on Wisconsin Avenue. Go one block and turn left on 5th Street. The Hilton Milwaukee City Center will be on your right. Parking ramp entrance is just beyond hotel on right hand side. Directions from Madison: Take Hwy 94 East and follow signs to downtown. Once downtown, exit on J. Lovell Civic Center. Follow J. Lovell 3 blocks to Wisconsin Avenue. Turn right on Wisconsin Avenue. Follow Wisconsin Avenue. 2 blocks to 5th Street. Turn right on 5th Street. Parking ramp is just beyond hotel on right hand side. Parking Members will enjoy free convention parking at the Italian Community Center, 631 E. Chicago St. Free shuttle bus service will be available to take members to the Midwest Airlines Center and the Hilton Milwaukee City Center. Directions to the ICC: Via Freeway: Take I-94 East to I-794. Get off at the Jackson St. Exit. Go south two blocks. The Italian Conference Center is on the southeast corner of the intersection of N. Jackson and E. Chicago Streets. NOTE: Members must present the parking coupon from the 2007 WEAC Convention Program to gain access to the parking facility. Clip the coupons from page 86 at the back of the convention program booklet. Free Shuttle Bus Service Shuttle buses will take WEAC convention participants from the Italian Community Center (ICC) parking lot to the Midwest Airlines Center and the Hilton Milwaukee City Center (drop off and pick up is between 4th & 6th Streets) and return them to the ICC parking area. Buses will begin running on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. continuing until 5:30 p.m. The parking and shuttle service will resume on Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. with service to the Midwest Airlines Center and Hilton Milwaukee City Center (drop off and pick up is between 4th & 6th Streets) until 3:30 p.m. NOTE: Members must present the parking coupon from the 2007 WEAC Convention Program to gain access to the parking facility. Clip the coupons from page 86 at the back of the convention program booklet. Hotel Reservations Members are responsible for making their own overnight reservations. Make your reservation early! The cut off date is September 24th. Make sure that you indicate that you are with WEAC. The headquarters hotel is the Hilton Milwaukee City Center. The rate is $129 sgl/dbl 414.271.7250. There is a block of rooms at the Double Tree Hotel Milwaukee City Center with a rate of $119. 414.273.2950 or 800.222.TREE. Interpreting Accommodations American Sign Language interpreters are available (free to members only) for convention attendees who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. You may also make arrangements via email at coordinator@interpretingsolutionsinc.com Special Accommodations If you have a disability and require special accommodations in order to fully participate in convention activities, please conatct Ann Reynolds at WEAC at 1.800.362.8034, extension 217. WEAC will make every effort to accommodate reasonable requests. ESP and Paraeducators ESP and ParaEducators requiring Verification of Hours forms for their Certification requirements should visit the WEAC office, ask for Denise Maney, to register and get their VOH forms for each session they attend at convention. PDA ESP Certificate program Credit toward the ESP Certificate Program, operated by the WEA Professional Development Academy, can be earned by attending the WEAC Convention. A maximum of 10 hours can be awarded in the elective category of Professional Conferences. Most of the convention sessions can qualify, including the General Session and the majority of workshops. Sessions not qualifying deal with personal topics such as financial or retirement issues. Individuals will need to keep track of the sessions in which they participate so that attendance hours from all workshops can be totaled. To receive credit, participants must sign the attendance sheet at the WEAC Information Office after attending all sessions. At that time, you will also receive their Verification of Hours form for your own records. The WEAC Information Office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday. No Verification of Hours forms will be distributed after the convention. Licensing Questions Staff from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) will be on-site to provide consultative services to members who have questions related to licensing. This service will be available at the Department of Public Instruction booth on the exhibit floor of the Exhibit Hall. |
