Organizing
is the process of informing, mobilizing and engaging members and
other stakeholders to exert their combined influence to obtain
positive goals. |
During the 2004 Summer "Organizing" Academy, local associations are encouraged to send teams to be trained in the basic principles of organizing to gain the power needed to ultimately accomplish organizational commitments and goals.
Local associations will learn how to:
Sunday specialized sessions
Academy participants will have the opportunity to attend specialized
training sessions on Sunday afternoon during the 2004 WEAC Summer "Organizing"
Academy. Sunday's specialized session topics and sign-up forms will
be sent to registered participants prior to the Academy.
Monday-Wednesday sessions
Beginning Monday morning and continuing through Wednesday at noon,
teams will participate in a comprehensive program of building skills
and gaining knowledge about current issues, organizing, and plan development
for implementing actions back in the local association. The following
topics will be covered:

Gain an understanding about current issues regarding school funding, collective bargaining, and political action. |
| Principles of Organizing |
Learn about building and using power - the power of your membership, member connections in the community, and the process of setting goals and planning for action |
| Organizing for Action |
Acquire organizing tools and practice plan development for implementing short-term and long-term activities in your local association to create positive change. |
| Local Plan Development |
Work with your team, in consultation with trainers, to develop action plans to implement in your local association. |
| Accountability session |
Learn how to plan and practice conducting a legislator accountability session. |
