In presenting the Education Support Personnel Award to Judy Heise of Menomonie, Laura Vernon, chair of the Awards and Board Elections Subcommittee, said:
Judy is a paraeducator for the Menomonie Middle School. She has been a tireless advocate for great schools, classrooms that work, and her union.
Judy has been a part of her bargaining team for the past several years.
She has demonstrated a strong commitment to the profession and has added
an important dimension to the process. She has consistently advocated
for a strong union presence in training, a living wage, and paraprofessional
involvement in the educational process.
Colleagues say she is a leader and her ability to connect with students, staff, and community is exceptional. Judy is always willing to "go the extra mile" in an effort to help and support education and the emotional lives of all children.
Judy also has a good understanding of the learning disabled students she works with. She is very accepting of student's differences and various needs. She challenges her students to succeed.
Here's a small sampling of the praise her colleagues provided in nominating her for this award:
"Judy spends countless hours researching topics and then shares
information with her fellow workers. Judy has played an integral part
of organizing and preparing for our union meetings. She is very much
a team player, both in our union and in the 6th grade team she works
with in school. She establishes good rapport with students, which influences
classroom climate in a positive way."
"Part of our district's mission is to prepare young people to be lifelong learners. Judy models this principle for students. She continuously strives to incorporate new ideas and activities to ensure students understand our mission and carry it out. She is energetic, communicative, and responsive to students' needs."
Another nominator said, "Judy is a leader. Judy not only has an excellent working relationship with students, staff, administration and community members, she also demonstrates enthusiasm for the district and community goals as a whole. Judy is filled with positive energy and wise ideas. She is a forward thinker and one who evaluates herself and her service in a helpful way. Judy is creative, resourceful, and flexible. Her character has set an example for everyone."
"Judy continues to amaze me with her ability to distinguish herself from others in caring, ethical, forthright relations with students, staff, administration, and community. Judy is fair, consistent and respectful. People trust her and actively seek her guidance."
What an outstanding member.
Congratulations, Judy.
