In presenting an Outreach Award to the Denmark Education Association and the Denmark Education Support professionals, WEAC Public Relations Committee Vice Chair Chuck Howard said:
The Denmark Education Support Professionals and Denmark Education Association worked together to begin a program to raise funds for local scholarships. Their goals were to build unity and support between the members of the two unions by working together for a common goal; to help fund students who wanted to go on to higher education; and to increase community support by presenting the unions in a positive light.
The groups decided to hold a community fundraiser to help improve their
public perception
and get the scholarship fund going.
Denmark members decided on a chili supper before and during the parents' night basketball game. Members donated their time as well as chili and desserts. They raised $400 to start the fund. Members are already working on improving efforts for next year. The scholarships will be presented at the high school graduation ceremony.
One judge said, "What a terrific way to help out local students and show the community how much good the association does!"
Another judge said, "I really like the all-inclusive idea of both groups working together. This project not only reached the community, but also was good for unity of membership. Great idea."
A third judge said the project was a "Super cause and an excellent way to build unity and seek support of two unions, supporters and teachers."
"It was a great idea to put forth a collaborative effort, DEA
and DEA-SP, to make the fundraiser successful," said another judge.
Congratulations to both the Denmark Education Association and the Denmark
Education Support Professionals.
